you can leave you hat on

Woah, wow, far out, amaaazzzing!!!!
Hair hats by Japanese artist Nagi Noda. Whens the next race day? One of these would guarantee you a win in the best hat competition.
Might ask the hair dresser to style my hair into one of these next time I go for a cut.
LOVE!!

fornasetti magic

By father...

and son...

Ive never really been a huge rug fan, but there are so many cool ones available these days its become hard not to like them.
I usually like the warm fluffys ones under foot, but would give up one of those for any one of these (above) in a flash.
I love Fornasetti ceramics & now I love his rugs. Perhaps cashing in on his famous name & his talents (of course) Fornasetti's son Barnaba's zebra rug is straight out of a kids storybook - a zebra peering out of a forest of leaves, yes please! I would be tempted to hang this on my wall.

These rugs & more are available here

so bold (& noble)

I thought this could be the new take on the whole 'stay calm & carry on' posters that are all over the show.
Bold & Nobles hand screened poster - Make Do & Mend, is so fitting for the current economic climate dont you think?

Im also loving these posters from the rest of their range...

forget me not

Do you agree that this is one of the cutest rings youve ever seen? The forget me not ring would be the perfect gift for a loved one that was heading off overseas.

a poetic notion from young Brooklyn based designer Kiel Mead. A stirling string tied around your finger in celebration of remembrance. The master mold was crafted from an actual tied piece of string.

a touch of embroidery

This kind of thing does my head in - how do you cross-stitch a wooden table?! Obviously needles that push through wood dont exist, or do they?! I can image that the amount of work involved to make this would be quite insane.

I love the combination of delicate embroidery & design with the boxiness of the table. This is really pretty, but perhaps not your typical rainy day activity!

If your new to my blog, then -

if you're a regular, hope you had a fun weekend!!! & bring on friday :)

inspiration

I am feeling inspired by these patterns & shapes, colours & layout.

nona pepe

If ever a rug screamed grandma, then this one would be it - cool, crazy, fun grandma mind you :)
By Italian designer Natalia Pepe.

that little extra touch

Wow! what a beautiful spin on the normal plastic sleeve & flower pot.
Designed by Nimrod Gavish, a 3rd year design student in Israel.

and now for the paper

If i was building or renovating a house (its a long way off, but dreams are free right?!) I would have my paints sorted with Bio Paints; & as for wallpaper, this stuff by Trove is pretty amazing.
Adopting a less traditional take on wallpaper, Trove explores a painterly or photographic approach giving their papers an element of excitement, quirkiness & uniqueness.
My favourite of the four pictured above has got to be the dark grey one with pink & white dots (top left), closely followed by the birds. Im picturing my wall/s now, & it/they looks great!

also...

I treated myself to this - a
Panton Junior.
Ive wanted one for a while & the price was finally right so I snapped one up. Its a bit, well actually its a LOT too small for me, but what a great sculptural piece. I love it!

hey you...

...dont mind if we do.

abracadabra

A few weeks ago I heard someone (on the radio I think) talking about the latest craze in England at the moment - heat sensitive wallpaper!  After hearing about it, I knew I had to see it/find it for myself, & today I did just that - Designer Shi Yuan is the magnificent mind behind heat sensitive wallpaper, oh & a poster too. This is truly incredible, & makes my mind boggle as to how it actually works - apparently you use heat sensitive paint..but how does that work??What a brilliant way to change up your interior, & let a little warmth into your life. Its magic.

tick tock, tick tock

How about this for a fun clock?!
By designer Susanne Philippson.& available from designshopUK

manhattan

Ever since I went to New York, & ever since I discovered the City Neighborhood poster range by Ork Design, I have been in love with the black & white version of this Manhattan poster. There is now a new release colour version & it is AMAZING!!! - these colours would have to be amongst my list of favourite colours ever. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available for sale yet, but as soon as it is I will have to snap one up quick smart!

beanbag/ottoman round up - add on...

I had just finished posting my beanbag/ottoman round up when I came across these amazing designs. Called livingstones, they represent the irregular forms & colours of smooth pebbles & boulders found in nature. At the glance they look cold & hard, but in reality they are a different story all together. I love the above images that show a variety of 'stones' and the fact that no item is the same as the next. If I had the luxury of producing a range like this there is no doubt that I would, unfortunately in a small country like NZ it just isn't viable, unless they are both made & produced here.

inspired by origami

Origami painting - focus is kept on the geometric shapes of the origami figures through limited colour & recycled paper/card canvas.

PJ Pocket Pillow - a quick twist of the lid opens the pillow to reveal a hidden stash of pyjamas & other treasures.

Fold Origami Dish (below) - designed & made in New Zealand by Rachel Young. The inspiration for this dish came from water holding origami models.

I am seeing a slight trend moving towards the wonderful - but oh so tricky – art of origami. I regard origami as an art requiring skill, concentration & patience as you bend, fold & tuck paper in all sort of directions. This makes for some really interesting art & design pieces.
