office inspiration

My project for the coming month is too sort our our spare room / office. My poor boyfriend has been making do with his computer set up on an old chest of drawers, surrounded by all of our junk for far to long! Time for a clean out & investing in some office furniture I think :)

As I get older, I become more & more interested in plants. That’s not to say im getting more & more green fingered, but perhaps that will also change over time?
This plant wall, featured on Bloesem, is inspiring me to create something similar in my own home. Do you just love it?

running out of time

Im stuck on ideas for our current range. Im having one of those frustrating times where I cant translate the ideas from my head onto paper.
And, Im going away in 4 weeks so need to get my stuff rolling out.
Im feeling inspired by these tea towels by Laughing Bird & Sara Berner Patterns. Im thinking panthers and elephants…

inspiration for today

I am feeling completely inspired by, & in awe of, these interiors. The kitchen feels very jungle-esk & the living room so serene.

days with my father

I was having some down time at work last week, so decided to have a look at the site days with my father.
Its a truly humbling & emotional read. The photographs are simply beautiful & capture the moments of a father & son & their struggle with old age & loss.

I have a real soft spot for oldies & love the history that comes with age. This site makes me realize just how much I wish my grandparents lived in the same country as me.

a great diy

I saved this image to my picture folder a good year ago, & whenever I come back to it Im reminded of how much I like it - it could also have something to do with the colour combinations of yellow, white & aqua/blue.
Ive been eyeing up a piece of furniture to eventually do this, or something similar, too.
Im not sure where I found this image, but it has something to do with Lena Corwin

inspiration with a splash of red

Ive been completey slack on the blogigng front this week - busy, busy, busy! So, only time for one quick post (or two if your lucky!)...another round of inspiration :)

inspiration - black & white

Rug, rock, print & painting.

saucy, versatile, romantic

When I get married, these are the flowers I want.
A bold statement for a girl who at the current point in time is (newly) single.
I feel a little wedding crazy at the moment. One of my best friends is preparing to walk down the aisle & I get to be bridesmaid - yay!!
Caught up in all of the excitement, & hens night planning, I keep spying wedding things & am constantly caught thinking - when I get married, thats what i would have...
...weddings make me SO happy!

'The Anemone is a saucy & versatile flower. She can stand surprisingly well on her own - holding a room with just a few stems, but she also mixes exceptionally well with a myriad of other blooms. She's great at parties. All this despite her tragic name - Anemone comes from Greek, meaning Windflower. It symbolizes the foreaken & is said to have sprung from the blood of Aphrodite's slain lover, Adonis. I generally dont tell that to brides...'

I am feeling inspired by these patterns & shapes, colours & layout.

origami magic

I had no choice but to watch a boring episode of one of those American home makeover programmes on monday night. As unenthusiastic as I was about it all, I must admit that one of the bedrooms they rebuilt & decorated was magical - origami covered walls & light shades creating an amazing garden scene.
I was particularly drawn to the light shades & was besides myself with excitement when I saw this Birdshade for sale on dutch design site tas-ka.
It was pretty pricy, but Im thinking it could easily be copied with the help of an origami book & patterned paper? Im slightly worried it could be a fire hazard though...

inspired by...

I was thinking about fans today & how delicate & beautiful they are - from their shape, materials & often ornate patterns. My mind was buzzing as to how I could bring the fan, or decorative aspects of the fan, into the new range Im working on.
Anyway, it reminded me of the stunning pieces (above) that I found on etsy a few weeks back & had slotted into my favourites folder. It was time to take them out.

vetoed

This is a design I was working on for our summer 08 range. The intention for its use was as a design for a new embroidered duvet. Unfortunately it was vetoed...but I still like it!

The inspiration behind this came from two sources - a visit to Karikari beach up north & a day spent collecting small treasures off the beach; & the symmetrical flora & fauna prints by NZ artist Penny Stotter whose prints I first came across via the eon design store in Auckland. Penny's work plays a huge influence in this design - which is clearly evident. I took an artist model approach (like we used to do in high school) but incorporated my own elements. I intended to develop this design further & make it more my own but never got the chance. Oh well!

beanbag/ottoman roundup...

knitted/textured ottomans. Non evasive use of colour.

Patterned ottoman/beanbag. Pretty pastel colour palette & traditional check.

This is a new pattern I have been working on. Below are some fabric swatches from our supplier. One is slightly quilted with diamond stitching, the other is faux leather.

Every summer & winter season we bring out a new beanbag range. I am currently in the process of brainstorming ideas for winter 09. Above is a collection of beanbag/ottoman images I have found for inspiration – whether it be texture & colour, or pattern & colour.

I have also posted a pattern I have been working on (colours to be decided), & some fabric swatches from a supplier to draw possible ideas from.
