My first upholstery project

Mum saved this old stool/basket from a family friend years ago, & passed it down to me when I moved out of home. The calico cover desperately needed to be replaced.

I enrolled myself into an upholstery course & decided to make this my first project - nice & simple, perfect for learning the basics.

You can see my process above - from start to finish (minus a few steps in-between). I completed it last night & am happy with the final result - bright, cheery & new!

I don't think you can buy shelves like these here in NZ (I could be wrong), but I think a trip to the local hardware store & a bit of DIY genius could solve my desire for some :)

So, I found some really cool hessian fabric which I really want to buy, but I don’t know what to do with it once I have it.

I saw this picture today, and suddenly thought – A rug! I could make a rug!

Has anyone made a rug before? Does anyone have any ideas on how I could do it? I have a few ideas, but want to see what you would do.

Do you think this would be an easy DIY? I need something like this, not only for books but other bits and pieces too.

What a fun idea. All you need are some beautiful ceramic knobs and a clever way to attach them. With the exchange looking so good, a collection of these anthropologie knobs would look a treat!

DIY to do or not to do

After much debate over whether to leave the rug on the floor or hang it on the wall, I finally made a decision. What do you think? I love it!

We get our suppliers to do invisible zips all the time. Its been a long while since I last did one (about 10 years ago during high school sewing), & wouldn't know where to start if, for some reason, I had to do one tomorrow...
But!
Ink and Spindle has posted an invisible zip tutorial. So, if the need now ever arises, I will know exactly what to do :) Hooray!
