We've had a mild winter so far & our poor ski fields are suffering from lack of snow! This means our snowboards are more than likely staying tucked away this winter... or you could send them to Nathan Seccombe & see if he can put them to use for you :)
I had to share this furniture with you for two reasons: 1. Because its beautiful & it would be a crime NOT to show you 2. Because Slowwood is dutch, and im dutch, but even better, it is designed and made in the small part of holland that my family comes from! I wonder if that entitles me to mates rates?!
Wow, ok, so a new furniture designer I must tell you about. Tim Webber!
He has set up an exhibition next to the citta design store*, and if I had money to burn I would be snapping up some new pieces for my house.
Loving his high gloss rustic wood, and his clean lined arm chairs and dining tables. I must find images of these...**
*20 Normanby Rd, 2 Level of the Bo Concept building. ** Fail on the image front, but will keep looking...
While im not really a fan of this particular traditional print fabric, I do like the mix of pattern with aqua & navy blocks of colour on this armchair & sofa.
This kind of thing does my head in - how do you cross-stitch a wooden table?! Obviously needles that push through wood dont exist, or do they?! I can image that the amount of work involved to make this would be quite insane.
I love the combination of delicate embroidery & design with the boxiness of the table. This is really pretty, but perhaps not your typical rainy day activity!
Now heres a stool I'ld be worried wouldn't hold my weight! Made entirely from cardboard, the stool simply folds & slots together, & is easily recycled at the end of its working life.
Just too put your mind at rest - I've seen a number of photos with full grown men perched upon these, so they must be strong!
I wasn't too sure what this was at first glance, however upon further investigation discovered it was a chair or, to be more specific, an indoor/outdoor low lounger, by Australian designer Alex Noble.
Element is a feature seating concept that is beautiful, versatile & comfortable. It's sculptural form is inspired by the rolling ocean swell. The rhythmic, rippling surface creates a comfortable seating position & adds dramatic aesthetic to any area, inside or out...
Im completely getting the rolling ocean inspiration, but wonder if this would suit your ordinary backyard? probably not!
I look at this &, strangely, think skateboard ramp/hut my little brother built using dads building scraps; yet at the same time I love the boxiness, & in a way ugliness, of the seat. Its actually quite beautiful!
I guess thats what furniture design is about - appealing to peoples senses in its own unique way.
This Intersection Armchair is by NZ furniture designer David Moreland. Other favourites of mine are
I am going to go so far as to say that I think the Tio Chair ,by Conscious Design, is one of the best known pieces of New Zealand design furniture of the last few years (i use the word 'few' loosely as it could be as many as 6 years or more!). I dont know many people who have not heard off, or seen this fabulous chair. The chair portrays the meeting point between furniture & fashion as selected New Zealand designers were given the task of creating bold textiles to cover the generous back & seat cushions. These covers are easily removed & replaced allowing you to stay up to date with fashion & interior trends. I would dearly love to own one of these chairs (maybe one day...), as it adds a bold statement to any room, & I am all for supporting great NZ design.
