Woah, wow, far out, amaaazzzing!!!!
Hair hats by Japanese artist Nagi Noda. Whens the next race day? One of these would guarantee you a win in the best hat competition.
Might ask the hair dresser to style my hair into one of these next time I go for a cut.
LOVE!!

more good news!

I have a new NZ artist love... Rebecca Harris. Isnt this work wonderful?! I happened across Rebeccas work while flicking through a magazine in the weekend, & stored her name to memory so I wouldnt forget to share it with you all, & i havent - which means she must have made an impact!
Oh man, looooooving it!!
Check out more of her work here

All of these works are self-portraits of... Rebecca Harris in various guises, disguises, attitudes & social circumstance. She has clothed herself in camouflage, hides behind a mask. Each of these beautiful paintings has substantive social & political dialogues, environmental discourse & reminds us again how accomplished & pertinent Rebecca Harris has become as she has transitioned from a ceramic & printmaking background to an artist producing paintings of real importance & substance.

oars

I am absolutely loving these beautifully painted oars by Home Base Collection

"The first one is called 'Treasure' & the most prominent image is the white heron (Kotuku) that is sacred to Maori.

The second oar is called 'The Heat Is On'. I painted this oar out at the beach...& it was extremely hot at the time. I was thinking about Global Warming...'The Heat Is On' is about running out of time.

The last oar is called 'Gay Thrush'. It is simply a true story of a gay man & his friendship with a bird. Graham, who has a spectacularly beautiful & humorous garden, has made friends with the Thrush who now eats with him, follows him about the garden & was happy to pose for me."

in the kitchen with

I love food & adore the smell of baking - Im sure Im not alone! Unfortunately I hardly ever find the time to do it - my mixer has been sitting in the cupboard gathering dust since I got it (sorry mum!) I was checking out the weekly 'in the kitchen with...' over at design sponge & fell in love with the illustrated photographs of the baking process. Im inspired. Might be time to dust of the mixer...

just what we need...

...another bloody water. Believe it or not, but thats its bloody name, & it has 'another bloody blog'  too. This australian brand has a straight up, no mucking around attitude that I just love. Its downright clever.

muscari

Im not big on putting things in my hair. I think it comes down to A) not knowing what im doing & B) the fact that my hair never seems to stay in place. Despite this I LOVE these hair pieces.
The necklaces on the other hand are totally do-able, no skill required & would look absolutely fabulous hanging around my neck.

Handmade by Easter Yu each piece is crafted with a mix of feathers, silk, dried botanicals, beads & other found objects. Ideas come from a love of nature & an obsession with colour, pattern & texture. Using ordinary materials in not so ordinary ways Easters pieces are just to die for. Agreed?

heart attack cuteness

This tooooo cute for words! - Hello little fella, I love you! Look at his big little ears!
Found via swonderful, who found it via the flickr stream of bluelunarrose - good find I say!!

have you cina these?

placemat & coaster range

USB flash drive

"cina is cool like japanese sushi" - what a fun comparison, I totally agree!
cina are two Tokyo based NZ designers with a passion to make everyday tasks more pleasurable, by giving otherwise ordinary items a wow factor. Im 100% sure these products do just that - they are amazing! I love laser cutting :)

computer nerd fun!

Would you take a look at this!! You can download biscuit icons to use - as folders I think - on your computer - both mac & pc. haha, LOVE it! Just have to work out how to apply them. Hehe, im SO happy!

rocky mountains drawing no. 1 print

Im really down with geometric/multi faceted designs at the moment - especially when they are beautifully coloured. I love the numerous angles that conjure up images of large, unusually shaped diamonds, or dripping, sparkling icicles.
I love the prints above by etsy artist yumiyumi & Jaime Derringer, as featured on Little Paper Planes.

a piece of toast...

A great NZ etsy find - Toast. How cool are these? I have a bit of a thing for brooches & have a small, but steadily growing, collection. These two finds would be a welcome edition.

balinese girl

I've been busy working at a photoshoot this week - oh the glamour! Today we were shooting at an impressive two story, slightly shabby, art deco house in Mt Albert, Auckland. During some down time I peeked through the window of the 'junk' room, & saw hanging on the wall the most fabulous portrait I have ever seen!

After some investigation I learnt that the portrait was a reproduction print of a painting by Russian artist Vladamir Tretchikoff.  Tretchikoff began painting in the 1920's at the tender age of 16 & found success as an artist in the 1930's. This painting, Balinese Girl, is from the 1950's. Described by some critics as the king of kitsch, Vladamir's prints became super popular & can now be hard to find. I, however, have managed to track some down via trademe & the internet, & fingers crossed the photographer at the shoot knows someone who is looking to sell two - exciting!
