diana's world tour
I first found out about the Diana World Tour through Beci Orpin's blog, little did I know that it was coming to Auckland!
The Department Store will be hosting the exhibition from the 18th March. Judging by the look of the cameras above, I suggest you pop across.

out of the box

Wine glass in hand, a throng of people & 300 works for $60 each, the push to get 'the best' work was fierce. I however, said with smile on face, managed to nab myself a work by Stafford Allpress - a 'wee room' featuring a spilled cup of coffee.
There were a few other works I could very easily have purchased but I was very self constrained & thought I had better leave something for those waiting to get in :)

"To celebrate the holiday season, Seed Gallery has invited 30 different artists, working across various disciplines & media to work with a set template: a 60mm cylindrical wooden box. The resulting exhibition will showcase 300 artworks reflecting each artists exploration of the limitations & possibilities of this form. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to acquire works by some of our most promising artists for only $60 a piece"
The exhibition runs until the 14th December.

old school

rabbit

rabbit detail - there was a tiny rabbit in the desk draw & a piece of paper under the leg to stop the wobble.
This was my favourite.

programme
I managed to check out the Old School exhibition by Stafford Allpress at Seed gallery, it was in its final days so I got in just in time.
And it was well worth it. A gorgeous exhibition of amazingly detailed miniatures that reminded me of my primary school days & my small home town.
'A meticulous treatment of surface and the careful construction and placement of mundane objects make for hauntingly familiar scenes.'

is that a rat on my head?

I was busy doing two things at once (like a typical girl) and happened across this illustration/exhibition invite - I cant remember where though! Its a pity the show, by Kareena Zerefos, is in Sydney because judging by this invite I could almost safely say it will have some work well worth checking out.
the passage between

I was strolling down Parnell Rise after work last week, & was drawn into Sanderson Art Gallery to check out their latest exhibition by artist Andrew Barns-Graham. I only had a few minutes to spare, but was completely blown away by the portraits on the walls. Each & every piece was a stunning & flawless portrayal of an idealized girl in a natural, yet unrealistic & sometimes threatening, environment. As much as the girl is in the foreground & nature in the background, each element works together in perfect unity. The girl would not be complete without her background & vice versa.
If you are in the neighbourhood, or looking for something to do, I fully recommend popping in to check the exhibition out - it is both powerful & compelling.
