reflections

They say that eyes are the window to the soul. I can convincingly say that sunglasses aren't.
It always fascinates me how different one can look wearing a good pair of sunnies - from beauty to the beast, nice to mean, in a single movement.

The sunnies in this series of paintings by Australian artist Abdul Abdullah add an element of mystery & a hint of evil. Do you agree?

ive been busy...

Admittedly Ive been procrastinating but Ive also almost finished my painting! My deadline is next Thursday, and I think I may finish before then... but then again, now that Im almost done I probably wont touch the thing again till wednesday & then Ill be in a mad panic.
I finished work early today, so decided to tackle the painting, & Im quite pleased with what Ive achieved - I'd been stumped on the wings but I think Ive basically cracked them.
The finishing touches will be a super super glossy coat of vanish & a small diamante on the end of the ring. What do you think? Will it pass as a wedding present??
Ill make sure I post the finished painting.

tying 'that' knot

Im currently working on a painting & at the same time 'owe' my besties a painting for their wedding which was 2 years ago!
I saw this over at poppytalk...

& loved the idea of it. I thought I could translate it into a painting, kind of along the lines of this work by Marina Luz, which I have adored for so long...

but Ill have to finish my current project before I even consider starting this one. What's another 6 months after already waiting 2 years?!!

new found passion

For a long time I considered still life painting as boring; something we had to do in fifth form art in order to pass. That all changed in April after popping into gallery thirty three in Wanaka & seeing the work of Glenda Randerson. All I can say is that I was speechless, & still am. I had my nose right up against the work - almost touching! - as I took it all in.

(Thats a funny thing I do - if I cant touch something then I need to get as close to it as I can. And that usually means leaning right in & inspecting every little inch. Is anyone else the same?? haha.)

If you ever come across work by Glenda I fully recommend checking it out. Its simple, but it has a quality to it that is just so magical.
